Hysteroscopy and recovery

Recovery after hysteroscopy is very simple and quick.
This is an operation that lasts about half an hour, most of the time under general anesthesia. In some cases it can be done without anesthesia (office hysteroscopy).
It is an operation that requires a few hours of hospitalization, i.e. the patient returns home the same day. On the day of the operation, it is recommended that after hospitalization the patient should not drive or work.
The next day the patient can return to her activities normally without any particular discomfort. The pains are minimal to none and a simple pain reliever at home is sufficient.
It is recommended to refrain from sexual intercourse and bathing in the sea for 10-15 days, depending on the instructions of the treating gynecologist.
If pain occurs post-operatively that does not ease with simple painkillers, heavy bleeding, foul-smelling fluids or even fever, then the patient should contact a gynecologist.

Hysteroscopy and blood

In the following days after a hysteroscopy, there may be a little bleeding, but this is controllable and normal.
In general, if the blood is not more in quantity than menstrual blood, there is no reason to worry.
The duration of the bleeding varies depending on the type of hysteroscopy performed and at what stage of the cycle it was performed.
In general, the blood may last more days if a fibroid was removed and less if a polyp, diaphragm or diagnostic hysteroscopy was removed.
