Fallopian tube plastic surgery (tuboplasty)

Fallopian tube plastic surgery (tuboplasty)

When we talk about tubal surgery, we mean the surgical operations that can be done to restore the anatomy and patency of a woman’s fallopian tubes.
The fallopian tubes of the uterus are the tubular organs that connect the ovaries to the uterus and within them the sperm and the egg will meet for fertilization to take place, during the period of the woman’s fertile days.

Understandably, if the fallopian tubes do not work properly or are “clogged”, this meeting cannot take place and consequently conception becomes impossible, even if the quality of the sperm is normal. t is what we call the fallopian tube factor, in the parlance of investigating a couple’s infertility. It is one of the most common reasons why infertile couples are led to IVF.

The diagnosis is classically made by the hysterosalpingography method, while the gynecologist may have suspicions in the doctor’s office with the ultrasound examination.

The most common causes of fallopian tube dysfunction are germs that cause pelvic infections, such as chlamydia, gonococcus, and other less common germs. These sexually transmitted diseases (salpingitis), cause inflammation in the abdomen internally, destroy the fallopian tubes by creating adhesions. Even an appendicitis can affect the function of the fallopian tubes.
Another frequent cause is endometriosis, which also with the mechanism of local inflammation but without a microbial agent, creates adhesions.
In addition, any previous laparotomy (open surgery) pelvic surgery may affect the patency of the fallopian tubes.

So when the woman is of reproductive age and the fallopian tubes are not passable, in vitro fertilization is one of the solutions proposed to the woman to achieve pregnancy.
Another less common solution, however, can be the surgical restoration of the fallopian tubes, i.e. fallopian tube surgery.

Now with the laparoscopy method, the gynecologist surgeon can “repair” the fallopian tubes, as far as the damage allows, with a one-day hospitalization and a very quick recovery.
In this way, the expectant mother is given the possibility to conceive naturally, avoiding the process of in vitro fertilization.
