Diet during Pregnancy – Diet-sugar

Pregnancy, diet-sugar

Pregnancy is an extremely important phase in a woman’s life and special attention to nutrition is required. Controlling sugar consumption during pregnancy is an important factor affecting the health of the mother and her child.
During pregnancy, a woman needs to increase her intake of nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber, to support the development of the fetus. However, too much sugar can be negative.
Excessive amounts can lead to excessive weight gain and obesity, which can increase the risk of conditions such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.
It can also increase the risk of premature birth.
Eating too much sugar can also cause increased calorie intake, which can increase baby weight. This can make pregnancy and childbirth more difficult, as well as increase the risk of complications (dystocia, caesarean section, hypoglycaemia in the newborn, sudden death).

The attending gynecologist will check the blood sugar regularly and recommend the sugar curve after 24 weeks usually, which is a blood test after the administration of an oral syrup. Depending on the results, we can see if the pregnant woman develops gestational diabetes.
In the case of developing gestational diabetes, diet is mostly sufficient to regulate blood sugar. But if not, then in collaboration with the endocrinologist, it will be necessary to administer insulin to the expectant mother as so far antidiabetic drugs are contraindicated in pregnancy.
On the contrary, insulin, if needed, is completely compatible with pregnancy.

To maintain a healthy diet during pregnancy, you should choose nutrient-dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole-wheat bread, protein from sources such as chicken, fish, beans, and natural sweeteners such as honey and maple syrup. You should also monitor your sugar intake and limit your consumption of sweets and soft drinks that contain high amounts of added sugar.
If the pregnant woman has difficulty controlling her diet, the advice of a clinical nutritionist can provide solutions and adjust the diet based on her preferences.

In summary, nutrition during pregnancy is critical to the health of both mother and child. Controlling sugar consumption is important to prevent complications and promote a healthy pregnancy. By choosing healthy sources of sugar and being mindful of your consumption, you can ensure the best start for you and your baby.
